Since Apple supports 1080p, some of you are perhaps now looking to send your Blu-ray collection over to your Mac for enjoying. But playing Blu-ray movies on Mac is not as easy as on a Windows PC, because the late and great Steve Jobs viewed Blu-ray as a “bag of hurt” from the “mafia.” and there is no Blu-ray playing software developed for Mac like the Cyberlink PowerDVD designed for Windows. As we all know, Blu-ray discs storage movie files in the form of M2TS streams, and VLC Media Player for Mac is able to play such a kind of file type, that is to say, to play Blu-ray movies with VLC Media Player for Mac, you just need remove copy protections embedded in the commercial BD movies.

Last week I have successfully ripped my several Blu-Ray discs on the Mac, and while the process wasn’t actually all that difficult. in order to help those who wanna view Blu-ray movies with VLC Media Player on Mac, below, I would throw this quick tutorial up.
First, the most important piece of the equation is that you have a Blu-Ray drive hooked to your Mac. Second, you will need a Blu-ray Ripping tool which is able to operate under Mac OS X. Most of you are likely familiar with the excellent Handbrake for ripping standard Def DVDs, but while the latest version of the software has added some support for reading Blu-Ray folder structures, it cannot yet decrypt the Blu-Ray discs the way it can with regular DVDs, so you’ll need to add an intermediate step. If you’re looking for ease of use, and don’t mind spending $40 (they currently have a sale), I’ve had success using Pavtube’s Blu-ray Ripper for Mac to convert Blu-Ray discs to a Full-HD 1080p format playable by VLC Media Player(also by my Apple TV 3 and new iPad).
