The new Apple TV (1080p Apple TV 3rd generation) offers the simplest way to watch your favorite HD movies and TV shows on your HD TV for the breakthrough price of just $99. While enjoying stunning HD image quality, many folks are having problem with audio, in specific, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Generally, Apple TV 3 itself can not play 5.1 audio directly, it needs the receiver in your surround system to decode the 5.1 audio into six channels and distribute them to six speakers. So really, the Apple TV 3 doesn’t need to decode 5.1 audio, it only needs to hand the surround audio stream to a receiver than can decode those formats.

If you have a great surround sound system and definity want to watch your Blu-ray, DVD movies or 1080p/720p HD videos on Apple TV 3 in Dobly Digital 5.1 audio, you’ll need a software which converts Dobly Digital 5.1 for Apple TV 3. If you’re looking for easy-to-use, check out Pavtube’s iMedia Converter for Mac (Alternative Wins Version), a top Dobly 5.1 Audio Converter for Apple TV on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. continue reading…

Q: How can I play Anime (.mkv) videos on PS Vita with subtitles?

I mostly download 720p Animes that has subtitles and convert them to .mp4 for PS Vita. I have been doing this for quite a while because I want to watch animes on the go. There are 2 major problems that annoys me. I have solved 1 of the problems but, I need to somehow embed the subtitle into the video. I don’t know much about subtitles, so any information will help. How do you convert a video with proper subtitles?

Overall, the PlayStation Vita is not only the most advanced portable gaming system ever made, but also a great media player for watching movies. If you’ve got some MKV files from Anime or somewhere else, you may want to transfer them to PS Vita for playback on the go. But due to format limitations(PS Vita only supports videos h.264/MPEG-4 codec), you can find it impossilbe to play MKV files on PS Vita, not mentioned to play them with subtitles. Don’t fret! Below, I would throw a quick tutorial up, guaranteed to get Anime MKV files and PS Vita to play nicely with proper subtitles.

Amazon Store offers instant streaming on the Kindle Fire, as well as PC, Mac, Roku, and hundreds of TVs and Blu-ray players. All of your videos are stored in Your Video Library, so you can access them anywhere you go. Good news is that Amazon Instant Video is now playing on your iPad. Videos you’ve purchased or rented are already available on your iPad. However, you can not transfer Amazon Videos to iTunes for synchronizing with more iOS devices like iPhone, iPod, Apple TV etc. The problem is that video files purchased from Amazon Instant Video are usually DRM-protected WMV (Windows Media Video) files. To sync Aamzon videos to iTunes, you may have to fix two things:

  1. Since DRM limited your use on iTunes, so you’ll need to strip DRM from Amazon Videos so as to play them on more non-authorized devices.
  2. WMV is a not an iTunes-supported format. You’ll need to convert it to either .mov, .mp4, or .m4v that is supported by iTunes. continue reading…

You may have noticed that Sony PlayStation Vita has a beautiful OLED high resolution widescreen. If you are much a movie fan like me, you can make it look so much like a portable media player to watch videos besides playing games. Unfortunately, something went wrong when you try to transfer AVI files to PS Vita for playing, below are two related questions:

Q1: The question is I would like to transfer and get some of my movies files onto it for playback on my trip. And most of my video files are in AVI (or Divx/Xvid) format. Does PS Vita play AVI files actually? I know PSP couldn’t but not sure the latest console from Sony can play the most popular video format around.

Q2: Has anyone with an imported Vita tried this? I’m wondering if you can copy .avi files from a USB stick onto the Vita like you can on the PS3.

From the PS Vita official website, you can find the supported file formats of PS Vita, and you can easily get the information that PS Vita cannot support AVI files at all. However, despite lack of offical support, you can watch AVI videos on PS Vita smoothly. I am sharing my experience to help those who are wondering how to get .avi files work normally on PS Vita. continue reading…

With 1080P hitting the new iPad 3 and Apple TV 3 two months ago, some of you are perhaps now looking to send your 3D Blu-ray collection over to iOS devices. Recently I have successfully ripped lots of 3D Blu-rays on the Mac and stream them to my new iPad 3 and Apple TV 3 via iTunes and while the process is more easier than you may think. In order to help those who wanna experience 3D Blu-ray movies with Apple TV 3 and new iPad 3 at 1080p Full HD quality, so I throw this quick tutorial up.

First, the most important piece of the equation is that you have a Blu-Ray drive hooked to your Mac. We all knew that the late and great Steve Jobs viewed Blu-ray as a “bag of hurt” from the “mafia”. So I don’t anticipate Apple including them even as a BTO option any time soon, so your best bet is to go external. The next experiment is to see if we could take a 3D Blu-ray movie disc and rip it to the Mac and transcode it into a format that could be played on the new iPad 3 and Apple TV 3 at the original 1920×1080 (full hd 1080p) resolution. Most of you are likely familiar with the excellent Handbrake, but it can’t rip from 3D Blu-ray to iTunes like it can with a DVD. so you’ll need to add an intermediate step. continue reading…

There are many programs out there that allow you to make copies of your DVDs and let you watch them the way you want to view them. If you’re looking for ease of use, and don’t mind spending $30 (they currently have a sale), I’ve had success using Pavtube’s Mac DVD Ripper for Apple TV to convert DVD discs to a format playable by Apple TV 3 and iTunes. I’ve found the quality to be excellent, and see no difference when compared to playing the discs themselves.

It can help you rip and convert DVD to Apple TV 3 720p M4V video while maintaining 5.1 surround on Mac. Better off, the new preset exports HD video with 2 audio tracks- both Dolby Digital 5.1 and AAC stereo audio will be retained, so that Apple TV could pass-through Dolby Digital to A/V receiver for reproduction of surround sound, and export AAC stereo when going without surround sound system. continue reading…

TiVo is a digital video recorder (DVR) developed and marketed by TiVo, Inc. That way we could record what we was already paying for and watch shows when we had the time to watch them. Yeah Tivo has a monthly fee but it’s the principle of the thing! Besides, a new toy is cool and fun to play with. The biggest problem with Tivo was working out how to get the shows from the Tivo box to Apple TV 3 where I could watch them the way I wanted to.

The standard application for moving recordings from the Tivo box to the Mac is Roxio Toast. It’s what Tivo recommends and it’s what Hollywood has blessed. The problem with Toast is that DRM Tivo attaches to all recorded shows doesn’t allow any editing or transcoding of your recorded Tivo file. That’s when I started looking around for another way. What I found that worked best was an application called Pavtube Video Converter, a top Mac TiVo Converter for Apple TV 3.

The program packs perfect support for TiVo recordings as well as HD footages, Flash videos, General Video, QuickTime video(*.mov), etc. With the application, you can easily convert TiVo HD shows to iTunes compatible formats without quality loss for smoothly streaming with Apple TV 3, iPad/iPad 3, new iPad 3, iPhone 4S and other iOS devices. Follow the steps below to transfer TiVo recordings to Apple TV 3 with original HD quality under Mac. continue reading…

The design is Identical to the previous version of Apple TV, but the third-generation box has a new interface, and new specs – namely support for 1080p. For the first time, this means the Apple TV 3rd generation isn’t just the gold standard of streaming movies, but a contender against the King of All Physical Media, the Blu-ray. Here I’m not talking about Apple 1080p and Blu-ray. I’m sharing my experience to help those who wanna watch Blu-ray movies with Apple TV 3. Besides, I also share something how to get Blu-ray’s Full-HD 1080p quality.

Of course, I’m not about to pay iTunes’ ridiculous prices to watch the movies and TV shows I already own on Blu-rays. Instead, I’ll just rip those Blu-ray discs to an Apple TV friendly format with 1080p Full-HD quality along with some help from a third-party tool. If you’re interested in doing likewise, Check out Pavtube’s Blu-ray to Apple TV 3 Converter for Mac. continue reading…
